New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has
made Schalke starlet Julian Draxler one of his top summer transfer
targets, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The ‘Special One’ is believed to be in the market for a number of new
players following his return to Stamford Bridge, as he looks to build a
squad capable of challenging for thePremier League title.
19-year-old Draxler is thought to be a player the Portuguese coach is
looking at closely, after being impressed by his performances in the
Bundesliga.
The teenager only penned a new contract that runs until 2018 recently,
but rumours suggest that a £38million release clause was written into
the deal.
Mourinho is no stranger to spending big, and could offer that figure in order to force through a move for the starlet.
The sum would be extremely high for such a young player, but Draxler is
widely regarded as the best rising star in his position in Germany, and
somebody who could eventually develop into a world-class player.
Chelsea may even offer Kevin De Bruyne as part of any deal, with the
Belgian – who spent last season on loan with Schalke’s domestic rivals
Werder Bremen – having been impressive in German football.
Mourinho is believed to see Draxler as a potential long-term successor to Frank Lampard.
Could Julian Draxler be Chelsea’s next big star? Or should the Blues focus on producing their own talented youngsters?
