To say there are some shocked faces here in the Football Transfer
Tavern after the latest claim from the Daily Mail would be a bit of an
understatement after they claimed thatBarcelona are set to bid a massive
£40 million for man of the moment David Luiz.
The defender turned midfielder has been in stunning form this season and now it seems that this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Catalan giants. The club are looking for a defender and one that passes the ball and scores goals like David Luiz not to mention one who is as versatile.
Despite being criticised by some of the media and indeed fans for his mistakes and often rash decisions, Luiz’ stock has grown and grown. Now he is reaping the rewards and the goal scored against FC Basel yesterday evening has given the happy go lucky defender a new found superhero-like status.
Barcelona are still reeling from their massive 7-0 aggregate Champions League loss against Bayern Munich and it seems that Luiz could be the start of some major summer spending. All of this of course hinges on Chelsea being willing to sell as the player is settled in London with John Terry viewing the Brazilian as a future captain of Chelsea. As one of our punters quips, should Jose Mourinho arrive at the club it is hardly likely that he will allow one of his best players to leave – and for Barcelona to boot.
